Oh So Pretty

Thanks again, friends.

I just continue to be amazed and thankful for this wonderful blogging community that we have created here. 

I hadn't planned on writing that last post about my Little Granny but found that I just couldn't stop myself - it was so nice to share what a wonderful woman she was.  She had a beautiful military service at Fort Sam where Taps was played, rifles were fired, the Honor Guard presented my grandfather with the American Flag and my post, a Granddaughter's Goodbye, was read.

I am touched  and honored that so many of you left words of sympathy and support after reading about about my Little Granny.  It really does mean more to me than I can express.  To think that women across the country and around the world are thinking about my Gran...it makes me so happy that my heart aches. She was a lovely woman and I am so lucky to have been her granddaughter.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

saying goodbye

One of my favorite women in the whole world has passed away. We are leaving today to attend her funeral, celebrate her long life and to say goodbye.

I grew up not living near my grandparents but it almost made my time with them even more special.  My little granny used to send me brown paper packages tied up with string.  Inside were homemade cookies and presents  tied with fat red yarn that I would later wear in my hair.  I spent summers with her and my Grandpa, flying from Michigan down to Texas - what wonderful memories I have of those days...

She was an Air Force wife and raised her four children on bases in Libya, Germany, California, and Michigan. She always have little dogs and kept a lovely home.  We have the same hazel eyes, both December birthday girls and we are both "lefties". She was active in her community and was so proud when she was named Sorority Sweetheart at 75  years old! She had her hair done every week and always looked like a lady (even when watching her beloved San Antonio Spurs sipping her one beer). She always had a twinkle in her eye and had the most lovely laugh I've ever heard.  Whenever I told her, "I love you" she would say, "I love you more."

I know that she is at peace now  and has joined her son and my father.  They  are always with us.  Still, I miss her...

I love you, Little Granny, I love you more...

Well, I just finished a very glamorous photo shoot ...on location..in  my daughter's room...with my dress form.  Okay, maybe not so glamorous...picture lots of huffing and puffing and tugging and pinning.  I had wanted to show you the pretty vintage nightgowns that I found. But, alas after downloading the pictures, I see that most of my full-length photos leave a lot to be desired. 

So, I thought that I would show you some of the pretty close-ups of the gowns.  The details are really what I fall in love with anyway. I think that it's that same for most of you too.

Tuesday Treasures

These are days...

we'll remember...

What a nice weekend.  We are enjoying lovely fall weather right now - it's chilly in the morning and 70 degrees in the afternoon - so very nice.  Of course , it will be 90 degrees again by the end of the week.  On Saturday, we met friends at a local church's Greek Festival - so much fun.  My girl pulled me on the dance floor for traditional Greek dancing (despite Mama's protests) and some Hokey-Pokeying.  Then there was yummy gyros, Greek beer and delicious Greek pastries.  Great food, good friends and dancing with my baby - what more could I ask for?

Then on Sunday, a local college (we have six here in Greensboro) hosts an Ice Cream Social every year and it's one of our favorite fall events.  There is free (!) ice cream, local bands, carnival rides and fun activities for the kids.  Here is my girl with her striped hair - I love it!

...making memories...

Over the summer my family met up with our dearest friends and stayed at their cottage in Michigan.  One day, we were on our way to the carnival when, in  the distance, we spotted something amazing.  We couldn't believe our eyes!  It was .....the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile!!!

Lori and I were SO excited!  Our three little girls thought it was funny that their mamas were screaming with glee and thought that a hot dog car was kind of funny.  Our husbands tried to get lost in the crowd and sort of rolled their eyes at our antics (think that they would be used to us by now!)

The fun didn't stop there.  The Weinermobile was there because they were filming auditions for the new commercials.  I love that but I was sad that our girls didn't know the jingles.  What ever happened to ad jingles anyway?!  Lori and decided that we HAD to audition.  I mean, really!  When would we ever get this chance again?! Again, our poor husbands wanted NOTHING to do with this.  Luckily, our girls are still little enough to go along with us.

Ready? Here we go! "Oooooh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer weeeeeiinnnnner..."

Actually, you could sing either the Wiener Song or the Balogna Song.  We sang "My balogna has first name.  It's O-S-C-A-R..."  You can actually SEE out audition video here (access code is EX9GYL).

It has been three years since we all lived in Michigan together, now we live in North Carolina and Lori and her family are in Arkansas.  So Lori and I make a conscious effort to really "make memories" for our girls when we are all together.  The girls love each other and talk about each other all of the time and that really makes their mamas happy! 

Now, I ask you - is this an unforgettable memory or what?

So, while at one of my favorite shops I spotted this pretty little box.

Oh my!  Just look at all of these pretties!

Well, of course,  it just had to come home with me. 

To make it even better, when I got to the cash register to pay I found out that it was half off.
