Oh So Pretty

I heart mail.

I love mail - have I mentioned that already?  I love it so much that I will peruse my local Border's Bookstore, find my favorites and then go home and order them on Amazon just so that i can get a "prize" in the mail.  That odd  behavior allows me a few of my favorite thrills - shopping, new books and MAIL.

This past week or so has been fun - I adore opening up my front door to find a big envelope or box on my porch. You too, right? Here are some of my goodies...

I was lucky enough to score one of Artsymama's peat pots.  It's filled with vintage wallpaper border, ribbon and flowers and topped of with one of her sweet florettes...

I received this sweet little "Just Because" package from dear Lori with a few Moo cards and some Pam Garrison postcards...

I did a swap with my new friend, Dede.  Just look at all of these goodies!

And, finally, I received my absolutely GORGEOUS Paper Parcel from wonderful Andrea.  Can you say "YUMMY"?!  Everything is SO lovely and so very inspiring...

Hmmmmm...I wonder what my mailman will bring today...maybe I should bake him a cake so that he keeps bringing me presents...well, it's worth a try...OK, I'm off to make this.

"New" Pretties to share with you...

Hello friends.  I thought that you might like to see some of my recent finds. (Lauren, you may want to look away!)

I went to a Junior League of Winston-Salem sale a few weeks ago and found this pretty peachy-pink confection for $15...Can't you just imagine how pretty the girl who wore this must have looked? The dress now hangs in my craft room...

I found this old basket at Goodwill for 99 cents yesterday and filled it with some of the millinery flowers and beaded trim that I've gotten over the past week or so...

I bought a set of four of these chairs for $20 a couple of weeks ago.  This is the "before" picture.  The backs were originally cane and the original fabric  (a pale yellow damask) is under that awful upholstery job.  I plan to paint the chairs cream...

These are my favorite find from the Antique Market last Sunday.  They were $15 for the 6 of them.  Are they great?!   I LOVE all the chippy paint - there are even bits of pink and green on a couple of pieces - yum!

My First Market...

as a seller!  One of my favorite local shops occasionally holds outdoor antique markets on Sunday.  Yesterday, I set up for the first time!

I have been a collector for so long that I really needed to get rid of a lot - with the help of my dear husband to haul and set up and my lovely little sales assistant (pictured below) I think that the sale was a success. 

I did sell a couple of things that I really was hoping to bring home (a pair of vintage french armchair frames and a french provincial reproduction telephone form the 1930s). 

I always hope that the things that I sell are going to good homes - I want them to be admired and treasured.  I can recall where most of my pretties came from and I hope that my buyers will one day say to a friend, "I found that at a market in Greensboro.  Isn't it fabulous?"

   

Of course, I found a couple of things to bring home too.  I'll take photos of those pretties later.  I can't wait for next month's market!

imagine my surprise

So, I  received a phone call from a friend recently telling me that she had given a reporter my name.  He was researching a story about stay-at-home moms returning to the workforce.  The following week, I spoke with the reporter and had a photographer came to my home.  Little did I know that the story would be featured in th Sunday paper with four HUGE FULL COLOR  photos ABOVE the fold.   It was really completely unexpected. I'm really quite embarrassed by the whole thing but appreciate getting my name out there.  Now I'm just waiting for someone to call me with an offer to run their antique buying company or to be a restaraunt critic or  a mystery shopper or an interior designer.  A girl can dream, right?

Today, I thought that I would take some photos of some of my favorite little pretties around my house.  Then I realized that many of my favorites have something in common, besides being lovely.  Can you you guess what it is?  I'll tell you later - for now, enjoy some eye candy!

Isn't is all lovely?  They make me smile - sigh...

The thing that they all have in common is that they are all gifts that my family has received over the past year from my sweet and generous friend, Lori.  Our husbands often just shake their heads at the gifts that we give each other ("You're giving her what?!") but I always adore buying for Lori and her girls and receiving is lots of fun too! Thank you, my friend!

I have many, many pieces of matte white pottery and a few in green and blue. 

This is my only pink and I adore it - hope that you do too.  This is a McCoy piece that my husband bought for me at the Southfield Home & Garden Antique Show years ago.  It sits on my little girl's dresser. Hearts and roses - just in time for Mother's Day...

What you can get for $10.00...

when you're at the right place at the right time.

Hallelujah! I love a church sale!!! I stopped by a church down the street halfway into their semi-annual Youth Group Sale not expecting to find much more than mismatched glasses and books.  Goodness, was I wrong.  There was an entire room filled with clothing and another filled with linens and another with kitchen items and so on and so on... 

I thought that I'd gone to heaven.  So I picked up some items but didn't see any prices.  That's when the sweetest voice rang out, "Honey, that purse was fifty cents.  Everything is now half price." What?! 

Look at all of the goodies that I found!

This was the most expensive item - a HUGE vintage pink hamper for $5.00.

These ornaments were in a box - 25 cents for them all. The two with the old metal tinsel are actually eggs.  Oh yeah and that full-size vintage satin comforter that they are laying on? 25 cents!

These items were each 50 cents - three pairs of Christian Dior kid gloves, fur collar, hand mirror, hat, tassel tiebacks, purses and beaded sweater...

Then I picked up all of these vintage slips for a quarter each...

Girls, there was even more that I brought home -  Some old books, a framed garden photo, costume jewelry, vintage girl's slips, scarves.  It was amazing - I am a lucky girl.

My husband says that I need to plan my own sale - I think that he may be right!

My oh my! My girl is five!

How can this be? My baby girl turned five years old this week! 

I am so lucky to have her in my life - she helps me find joy, makes me want to be a better person and reminds me to have fun each and every day.
