Oh So Pretty

Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness...

Oh my!  I had so much fun last Friday - wish that you all could have been there too! 

Twice a year there is a great antique show held in Liberty, North Carolina.  I was debating about whether or not to go Friday (the day it opened) or to wait for Saturday to go with my honey and my girl (and all of the crowds).  Anyway, decided to head out on my own and after a bit of a scenic journey had the best morning!  There were thunderstorms at my house that morning but Liberty had  80 degrees and sun.  The dealers are so friendly and have really wonderful things.  I wasn't looking for anything in particular but am ALWAYS looking for something pretty! I am a girl on a budget so I wasn't able to bring home all of the lovelies that I found but I really enjoy just seeing gorgeous things. 

I was happy when I left - my bag was full and my wallet had just enough to buy some homemade fudge from the sweet old church ladies to eat on my ride home!  That is MY kind of morning!

I love the 1904 checkbook from the Bank of (the) French Broad! Isn't that great?!  It is  8x11 and I bought it for $1. I love a bargain! 

The letters are all to Miss Lucile Thomas in 1913 - I haven't read through them yet - looking forward to it...

Hello All...

Sorry that I've not posted.  I have been recovering from a double root canal and not had the energy to do much of anything...

I am itching to start some projects so I plan to post some photos of those next week.  Also, THE antique market of the season is this weekend so I hope to have some treasures to share on Monday.

Good Things (and a little grumbling...)

I love getting mail - fun little presents that arrive on my doorstep make me SO happy. 

Look what arrived yesterday - my Doodlepack from Holly!  Oh my!  That girl really did put the goodie in goodiepacks!  She included all of the pretties that she has been working with - yummy vintage wallpaper, lovely seam binding, birdie bits, sherbet colored buttons and that scrumptious flocked tulle!!

  Also, yesterday picked up this great magazine -

Really gorgeous photos - compiled from previous  Better homes and Gardens magazines.  I won't have to tear this one up because the whole magazine is tattered and pretty things...

I don't always love Romantic Homes but this one looks great.

Now for my bit o' grumbling (I'll try to be quick).  When I bought the other two magazines, I saw that the new Country Home and Martha Stewart Living magazines had also hit newsstands.  Can I tell you that I was itching to buy them - even though i SUBSCRIBE to them both! I can't stand that these pretty shiny new magazines are there waiting for me to look at and I HAVE TO WAIT!  Really bugs me that subscribers don't receive the magazines first or, at least, on the same day as they hit newsstands - ugh!  Thanks for letting me get that out of my system.  I know that I could have bigger problems than this but I just know that if anyone will understand my frustration - it would be you.  Thanks.

One more thing.  Bless his heart but I am SO glad that Sanjaya was FINALLY voted off.  It was about time!

More souvenirs...

Gosh, how lucky can a girl get? On my one day out on my own shopping while visiting my in-laws in Michigan, I rescued this pretty girl from the thrift store next door to Paris (the store that I posted about a few days ago).  She is made by Ideal and was only $3.99.  Isn't she sweet?

Then I found these pretty hats!

Then I arrived home and Lori flew in for a quick visit.  Here she is shopping at one of my favorite shops here in Greensboro, Thrill of the Hunt.

My kind of fun!

Hello all!  I hope that you had a lovely weekend.  I was away at a Girl's Weekend at Pawley's Island, SC.  What a beautiful place - love those live oak trees dripping with spanish moss! Our weather was great, as was the company - just what I needed! 

I didn't have time before I left to post all of the treasures that I found last week.  I found some pretties while driving to Michigan, while visiting family in Michigan, driving home to NC and during my lovely visit with my dear friend, Lori.  I really hit the jackpot so I will post a few photos today and more tomorrow.  Tell me whatcha think, okay?

I bought this dress for $10!  It is so tiny that I had to leave the zipper wide open in the back for it to fit on the dressform.  I'm giving this to my girl for her birthday - hope that she likes it!

These are some of my favorite finds - a ledger from 1860, a Victorian album, an 1877 Connell Family history (my maiden name!), and a package of Headache Powder envelope from a Philadelphia Apothecary named Charles T. Norris!

I just couldn't post this entry without mentioning that my heart and thoughts are with those people affected by the tragic events that occurred yesterday at Virginia Tech, as I am sure that yours are.  I truly have no other words...

Girlfriends...

There really is nothing like spending time with your girlfriends, is there?

I just had the best (but far too short) visit with Lori from Vintage Flair.  We have been friends for at least 12 years, talk daily and now live in different states.  She flew in to NC on business and we got to spend two days together - SO much fun!  We spent Tuesday antiquing at the prettiest places.  The funny thing is that as we were shopping, we were talking about all of you!  I would find a pretty something and say, "This looks like the one Andrea found last week".  Lori would do the same - speaking about Holly, Pam, Jennifer, Lauren, Melissa, Nicol, Cerri , Heather, Kari, and so many more of you - as if we really "knew" you.  But we kind of do, don't we? 

I feel so lucky to have found all of you kindred spirits who "get" me.  Your comments make me smile, your posts feel like I'm chatting with you and your photos inspire me - thanks so much.  I just KNOW that we would have had so much fun if we could have been all together shopping and chatting over wine! It's wonderful to have so many new girlfriends - a girl can never have too many, right?

I've just returned from Paris...

So sorry that I've been away so long - I have missed you girls! 

Still trying to get myself settled before leaving again for a Girl's Weekend at the beach but I wanted to give you a little eye candy to let you know that I've not forgotten you! 

Whenever I return to Michigan, I make sure to visit three stores - Belle Rose, Anthropologie and Paris. So, here are pictures of the amazingly beautiful store Paris, located in Royal Oak, Michigan.
